new liberal leader
i'm interested to get to know this guy.
i like that he came out of nowhere and nobody expected him to win. i like rooting for the underdog, although the liberal party is hardly an underdog. but you get my point. he is championing (i don't know if that's a word, is it?) three major issues.
1) social justice
2) enviromental issues
3) economic prosperity
sounds good to me. the top two are the most important and the most often ignored in government, so it is refreshing to hear a new stance. even the NDP who traditionally do well on these two things are better known today for their negativity than actually trying to make a positive difference. i am not a liberal, but if he is serious about these three things, and actually does something to challenge the current government on these issues, i might be persuaded to give a holla' to dion. by holla', i mean vote. i'm still green party in my ideals, and i like their stance on non-violence, but to see some real change happen with the environment and social justice would be refreshing. i would prefer that to canada being the laughing stock of the rest of the world.

I actually watched the contest for a few hours blair - found it interesting. I also like his 3 "pillars", I wonder if he'll be able to make something happen however - they are popular in one sense (with people like you and me) but they don't seem to move that fast in the world of politics, where people unlike you and me (think richer and "elite" and not the green party) seem to make the decisions. It will also be interesting whether he can make the first two fit with the third - I'm not sure you can. It's a real good start however.
His English is horrible - it's like torture listening to him speak, but that doesn't seem to hurt the liberals (see Mr. Chretien). I was hoping Gerard Kennedy would win, mostly b/c of his food bank experience, but was glad he got to play the role of "kingmaker"...

yeah, i know what you mean. we don't always see the movement when they make those kind of promises. the third will most likely take priority over the first 2, but he is new, so i'm holding out hope that this time will be different. his english is terrible. i wanted bob rae to win because he went skinny dipping with rick mercer, and i can respect that.
oh the things one must do to earn blair's respect. why do you think me and dave are so tight?
